This has been my favorite verse of Scripture ever since I encountered it as an adolescent. I was born blind and lost my hearing in childhod. Later I experienced great personal disappointments and loss. Depression has haunted me for the last twenty years, and I have undergone great physical pain. Though I was an agnostic for a while, God touched me and brought me back to Him. Now I see all the things that have happened as contributing toward my present striving for His kingdom and His righteousness. The most significant of these events is covered in Chapter 1. It has shaped my life until now. Chapter two begins the recounting of memories more or less in sequence.
